Neelam Mohan - The Inspiring Designer, Entrepreneur and Social Activist

She was the first Indian to design for some of the best known brands  of Europe, such as Armani amongst others. Her export house partnership won:

  • the Rajiv Gandhi National Quality Award given by the Bureau of Indian Standards in 1993,
  • the Certificate of Merit given by the President for outstanding achievement for the year 93-94

At the age of 38 she started her own export house Magnolia, from her garage with 4 tailors. Today Magnolia has an annual turnover of over INR 130 crores and employs over 3000 people. From a garage, it now consists of multiple factories, and office spread across a landscaped property in Noida and presently building a LEED certified factory.

She has designed and collaborated with numerous international labels such as Roberto Cavalli, Guess Jeans, Max Mara, Malrborough, and the Valentino group, amongst others.

Having reached the pinnacle in designing and exports, Neelam is now fulfilling her dream to provide love and care to senior citizens. She started a trust called “Panchvati” and has built a beautiful home for senior citizens located in Tuglakabad Extension.  This creative and innovative home speaks of love, care and trust. This is the first home to offer short stay option with assisted living facility in the entire country. Also as a first in Delhi is a day care center for Dementia and Alzheimer’s patients.

Panchvati is a pioneer effort to make a green building with rain water harvesting, grey water recycling (75% of the total water intake is recycled by natural means), and the use of solar energy and natural lighting .

This has been a journey of learning and passion for Neelam.

Her focus today is to address the issues related to senior citizens.  She strongly feels there should be a home like this in every district of Delhi and we need to focus on creating age friendly states in our country. In caring for the Panchvati family she has great understanding of the issues faced by the elderly in terms of attitude and health.
